In the fifth episode of our Unplugged Dialogues series, we sat down with Anne Pépin, senior scientist and special advisorfor the DG for Science within the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). In the interview, Anne reflects on her seven years working on gender equality policy at the European Commission's DG Research and Innovation, highlighting key achievements in Horizon Europe, including the Gender Equality Plan eligibility criterion and the requirement to integrate sex and gender analysis into research and innovation.

She also touches upon remaining challenges, from ensuring that Gender Equality Plans lead to meaningful change and strengthening the integration of the gender dimension in research, to addressing gender-based violence and an increasingly challenging geopolitical context. The conversation ultimately emphasises the importance of strong policy provisions, monitoring and accountability, institutional support, and proactive alliances to protect and advance gender equality in research and innovation.
