INSPIRE shares #SafeAcademia mission

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, GENDERACTIONplus launched the #SafeAcademia campaign, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of creating safe, respectful, and inclusive environments in academia for all.

Why #SafeAcademia? As shown by numerous studies, women and girls are more likely to be subjected to gender-based violence and sexual harrassment in academia than men. At the same time, there are other intersecting factors at play: sexual orientation or ethnicity, for example, can trigger different forms of violence and discrimination. This, in turn, can prevent these researchers from staying in academia.

Inclusiveness is at the core of our project: we are creating knowledge and developing tools that address these intersecting inequalities across both the public and private sectors. This is why we joined our EU sister projects and participated in the online campaign to reaffirm our commitment to #SafeAcademia.

More information about the campaign can be found here and on our Twitter channel!
