About

I am a Banting Postdoctoral Researcher in Politics at York University (Toronto) and independent consultant. I am also an Honorary Fellow, University of Edinburgh, and an elected member of the Steering Committee of the European Consortium for Political Research Standing Group on Gender and Politics.

I hold a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies (Simon Fraser University, Canada), an MA in Gender Studies (SOAS, University of London), and a PhD in Social Policy (University of Edinburgh, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council).

My research is about the operationalization of the Black feminist theory of intersectionality in policy and practice: its influence and possibilities, as well as the discursive and material resistance it faces. I also have a particular interest in intersectional research methodology. My areas of specialism include equity, intersectionality, NGOs, inequalities relating to race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, and sexual orientation, equality policy, and inequalities in higher and further education. Formerly, I was a Researcher at the Equality Challenge Unit (now Advance HE, UK).

As an independent consultant I have completed a range of research projects relating to gender and race inequalities, and their intersections, in higher education and research.
