Background

The GEAM tool is an integrated environment for carrying out survey-based gender equality audits in academic organisations such as universities or research centres. It aims to enable gender equality practitioners or interested researchers to collect relevant data to better understand existing intersectional inequalities within their organisation and monitor progress over time. 

Since its inception during the ACT project, the GEAM has undergone continuous improvement and has been translated into over 14 European languages, in addition to English. Drawing from the insights gained through the participation of more than 40 organisations, the employee-focused questionnaire has been expanded and refined. Moreover, within the context of INSPIRE, an entirely new version targeting student experiences has been developed. 

Target audience

The workshop is aimed at individuals working on gender equality within academia or other organisations such as:

• Gender Equality officers
• Human Resources officers
• Science managers
• Researchers and academics forming part of equality committees and working groups 

It is specifically geared towards individuals with little experience in social sciences, with no previous knowledge of the design and implementation of online surveys. It will provide a hands-on introduction to efficient yet first rate equality data monitoring, covering both employee and student experiences at the organisational level. 

General description

The workshop will guide participants through the preparatory steps for launching a GEAM questionnaire. Participants will be encouraged to work with real-world examples, i.e. customise their copy of the questionnaire to their institutional context. The adapted questionnaire can be launched after the workshop to generate real data - or not. In the latter case, participants will be able to export their GEAM questionnaire which can be easily used and launched at a later point in time by importing it to any compatible LimeSurvey platform. 

Duration

The workshop is structured in two sessions over two days with an overall duration of 7 hours.   

• Session I - Introduction to the GEAM & Key Concepts

The first session will introduce the overall GEAM framework, its purpose, main components of the employee questionnaire and the student questionnaire, and application scenarios. Several members of the GEAM development and support team will be available for Q&A. There is no limit on the number of participants for the general introduction to the GEAM.

• Session II -  Hands-on technical practice.

The second session will provide hands-on training for setting up and customising a GEAM questionnaire. It will be limited to 20 participants.
